Genealogy Day

March 15, 2015

Yesterday March 14 was officially Genealogy Day. Of course in my world, everyday is Genealogy Day. But the question was what to do to celebrate this day officially.

After thinking long and hard, probably the best thing that can do is a post to revive my Blog, which has been very much ignored in recent times.

In this post, the first of a new beginning, I’m choosing to mention the BillionGraves Project which is a celebration   BillionGraves March Madness

The purpose is to encourage historians and anyone else who is interested to download the Billion Graves camera app & head out to a local cemetary & photograph graves. Using the App, these photos can then be uploaded to BILLION GRAVES. The photographer can then transcribe the headstones or leave them for another volunteer to transcribe.
The purpose of this project is to eventually have a huge register of graves in many countries around the world. I think this is a very worthwhile project and have been uploading graves, for a couple of years now, albeit very spasmodically.

However during March Madness month, I have committed to upload all graves in the AXEDALE CEMETARY. So far about 50 have been done.
