On The Map #52ancestors
Professional genealogist and podcaster Amy Johnson Crow has put out the challenge to genealogists and family historians, to write stories about 52 of their ancestors in 52 weeks. I am happily taking up the challenge, and look forward to writing stories, that will collate many years of research results. In most cases, the research for my ancestors is not complete, and possibly never will be complete, but I’m hoping to build a story of the lives they lived with the information I have to hand.
Week 38: On The Map
For this prompt, I’ve decided to mark red crosses on the map of Victoria, to signify the towns where my main family lines lived. I found this to be an interesting exercise. In my mind, my families were scattered all over Victoria. I was surprised to find that in reality they were concentrated to a central corridor of the map.
Any of my ancestors who lived in Melbourne suburbs are categorised together, as ‘Melbourne, with just one cross. The crosses are not placed to scale. The red crosses are placed in approximate positions only.
The towns in Victoria where my ancestors lived:
- Bendigo
- Shepparton
- Ballarat
- Seymour
- Violet Town
- Geelong
- Colac
- Wangaratta
- Seymour
- Melbourne
- Echuca
- Yarrawonga
- Benalla
- Heathcote
- Bundalong
- Rochester
- Whittlesea
- Kyneton
- Kerang
