52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks Week 2: Photo

This photo of my grandmother and some of her brothers and sisters, is a photo that I really love and treasure.

On the left is BERNARD WATERS, sitting next to him is his sister, my grandmother LEOLA WATERS, then VERNON ALEXANDER WATERS, and BLANCHE WATERS nursing baby EVA.

These children are five of the children of my great great grandparents Earnest Welfare Waters and Hilda Mary Beatrice Gilmour. I do wonder about the seemingly beautiful clothing being worn by the children. Their mother and their aunt were very talented seamstresses, so it wouldn’t surprise me if one or both, made the clothing. It’s probable that the photo was taken in Rochester, maybe on the family farm.  By the way the children are dressed, I would guess it was a special occasion, or perhaps it was taken when the children were dressed for Sunday School, which they attended regularly.

The children in this family were born over a period of 22 years. Eva, the baby in this photo, was born in 1913, so my guess is that the photo was taken in about 1914

If you were descended from this family, I’d love to hear from you. Please leave me a comment which I do promise to answer.

Hello Jennifer, a very interesting photo and story, do you have the date Earnest passed away as I have a vague memory of Ern Waters coming to our place at Preston. Ivan

    • That’s so interesting Ivan. He passed away in July 1971. I was 17 at the time so I remember him very well
