April A-Z Challenge – L

April 16, 2017

The Blogging from A to Z April Challenge is a challenge put out to bloggers to publish a post from A-Z every day in April, except for Sundays. April 1 is A, and so on throughout the month. Bloggers can post randomly or on a theme. The theme I have chosen is ‘My Ancestors’. I used this same theme for the Blogging from A-Z April Challenge in 2015. This time the ancestors posted about will mostly be more distant members of the family. Hopefully, when combined this will form a full picture of my family history.

My great grandmother ADA LOUISA LOVE was born on 4 February 1875 at Heathcote, Victoria. Her parents were ALBERT THOMAS WEBB LOVE and GEORGIANA MARIA ANNETTA COX. There is some confusion over Albert’s surname, as it has been noted as both Webb and Love.  Albert passed away in February 1876, when Ada was one year old. Her sister ALBERTA SARAH RACHEL was born, four months after her father died.

On 9 April 1880, Ada’s mother Georgiana married JAMES TRANTER. She went on to have nine children, step brothers and sisters to Ada and Sarah.

On 4 December 1895, Ada married FRANCIS WILLIAM MORISON, known as John. They had 10 children:
ARCHIBALD JOHN
JOHN JAMES
WILLIAM FARQUHAR
RUPERT REGINALD
THOMAS ALBERT
FREDERICK
ELSIE ANNIE VICTORIA
STELLA MARY ADA
DONALD ADAM
VERNA

Their fifth child Thomas Albert Morrison was my grandfather.

Ada Louisa Morison passed away on 7 April 1966 at Blackburn and is buried in the Box Hill Cemetery.

Please note: Our family name of Morison became Morrison in the 20th century

  1. When my brother was doing genealogy he ran into issues with different last names. Also a lot of our relatives used their middle name as their first name. It was so time consuming for him trying to figure out real names so that he could obtain more information.

    • Cheryl sorting through names that are all the same in each generation is one of the challenges of family history.
