Jephtha Freeman – Eight Hour Day Pioneer
Following is a repost from 2016, as some family members didn’t see it.
Yesterday’s post concerned the Eight Hour Day pioneers, and Jephtha Freeman‘s involvement.
Following is an article about Jeptha Freeman that appeared in The Sunbury News in 1903.

NEWS AND NOTES
AN OLD COLONIST, Mr. J. Freeman, of Sunbury, completed the fiftieth year
of his residence in Victoria on Saturday last, when the occasion was celebrated
by a very pleasant social evening.
Mr. Freeman was in his younger days, closely associated with the cause of industrial progression in general and the Eight Hours movement in particular.
He was one of the pioneers of that widespread principle, having been on the original committee, of which he is now almost the sole surviving member.
Mr. Freeman’s health has not been as good lately as his friends could wish,
but with the return of the warm weather it will, we trust, greatly improve.
