Old Bendigo Photos
Here are a few old photos of Bendigo. These photos appear in the Vintage Bendigo Calendar for 2016. The calendar is available at various retail outlets around Bendigo.
Lunch time at Gillies corner c1960s. I remember this scene well. I grew up in a town about two hours from Bendigo. When we went to Bendigo shopping with Mum, we insisted on getting a pie from the “pie window” for lunch. It seemed such a novelty to us to be served from a window.
Plaza Theatre, corner of Mitchell Street and Bath Lane c1936. This corner is unrecognisable as it is today. Mitchell Street today is one of the main streets in the CBD and Bath Lane is a very busy, trendy, slightly upmarket shopping and cafe strip.
Hand coloured postcard of Easter Monday, Howard Place c1903. This photo brings back many memories of taking my children to the Bendigo Easter Parade in the 1980s. The Sun Loong dragon, featured in the parade was always a highlight. The parade began in 1871 and is still a popular feature of the Bendigo Easter Fair.
