April A-Z Challenge – K is for Kyneton

April 12, 2015

KK is for KYNETON, in Central Victoria, Australia.

My Great Great Grandfather  Thomas Waters lived in Kyneton. When he arrived in Victoria he walked from Melbourne to Kyneton where he settled. For a period of time while living in Kyneton, he would walk to Trentham to work in the potato fields He wrote letters home to relatives in Bedfordshire telling stories of working in the snow. He said that he found the cold winters in Australia to be colder than England.

In 1865 the house Thomas and his family were living in burnt to the ground and they lost everything.
