Burke and Wills Monument

April 3, 2014

I’m just a little bit besotted with the story of  the Burke and Wills expedition Over the years I’ve read everything that I can get my hands on. Lately the explorers have taken my attention once again, as I am thinking about participating in the  Burke and Wills Trek  in 2015.  This trek is a 330k, 12 day team challenge, walking  from The Dig Tree, near Innamincka to Birdsville.

As they have been on my mind, I was surprised to discover this monument to Burke and Wills, only about 25 ks from my house.

004This monument to Burke and Wills can be found on the Axedale-Goornong Road, just outside Bendigo.

My husband and I found this memorial today and started wondering about how many of these memorial there are throughout Australia and that it would be fun to discover and document them – then I found your blog! I’m looking forward to reading it.

    • That’s great Jennifer. I’ve often thought I’d love to follow their trail & record the monuments. In retirement maybe. Thanks for your interest
