Kiva Loans in Memory of Joan Miller

January 14, 2013

Last week I was devastated to hear of the death of Joan Miller, co-captain of ‘Genealogists for Families’ project. You can read my previous blog about this project here

As a mark of respect to this wonderful woman, my next two  Kiva loans detailed below, will be commemorative loans dedicated to Joan.

Today I received an email telling me that some of my loans had been paid back, so I’m now able to re-loan that money to two more borrowers.

I have decided to give my two new loans to Nizam from Iraq who owns a small shop and specialises in selling sweets and pastries and also to Roger Erberto from La Paz Bolivia who is a baker. Roger is the first male borrower that I’ve chosen. I’m not sure why really. For some reason I have been thinking that the females probably have more challenges and need more help in their businesses. But Roger, who makes a living baking and selling bread, seems to be a very hard working young man, and I feel should be given equal opportunity to expand his business.  This is Roger’s first loan and I’ll be extremely interested to watch his progress.

These are my 8th and 9th loans. I have now had my initial $100 refunded and am reloaning that money at no cost to me at all.

These two loans have been made in memory of Joan Miller who will be sadly missed. I pass on my deepest sympathy and condolences to  her family and friends.
