2011 Genealogy Blog Awards

December 20, 2011

Anyone reading here will remember that I’ve occasionally mentioned   Genealogists for Families which was started by  Judy Webster from Queensland Joan Miller  from Canada , just a few months ago. The aim is to make small micro loans to small business operators who aren’t able to access traditional banks. This enables them to operate their businesses successfully and support their families. So far I have made three loans and intend making more as these loans are repaid.

The exciting news is that this project has won the Best New Community Project in the Genealogy Blog Awards 2011.  Congratulations to Judy Webster for sticking with the project in the beginning when it took a little while to get it going. We now have 102 members worldwide and have made 201 loans.  I have made 3 loans, and 2 of these are being paid back already.

I’m truly passionate about this project. Our Motto is We Care About Families (Past, Present and Future).  Genealogists are a very generous bunch always very generous with their time and their information. I find it very inspiring to see genealogists and their families and friends also being generous enough to help others financially.

One micro loan costs $25.00.  It is not necessary to be a Genealogist to join our team. If you would like to make a difference to a family by making a small donation, we would love to have you join our team.

My loans have been made to  Lena from Armenia  Nathalie from Togo and  Narcisa from Peru Their loans are all now fully funded and are being repaid to me.
